fuel your pet’s brain with this simple recipe
As our pets age, their brains can start to fade. The best way to keep your furry friend’s mind sharp is to provide healthy foods and regular aerobic activity. Try feeding a nutrient-rich snack – like the one below! – instead of a processed treat to keep him wise into his golden years.
Chum and Get It Fish (for dogs)
Add goji berries, strawberries and raspberries for even more noggin-healthy nosh!
2 3.75-oz cans sardines packed in water
½ c. chopped celery
½ chopped carrot
½ c. blueberries
½ c. low-fat 2% cottage cheese
2 tbsp. parsley
Combine celery and carrots in blender and blend until minced or pureed. In bowl, combine sardines, vegetable mixture, blueberries, cottage cheese and parsley and mix thoroughly. Divide into portions appropriate for your pet’s caloric intake.
Makes approximately 3 cups.
Healthy fact: Sardines are nutritional powerhouses: In addition to CoQ10, they are a great source of vitamin B12, selenium, omega-3 oils, protein, phosphorous and vitamin D.
