Enrollment

  • Does Petplan charge an enrollment fee?
  • No. There is no enrollment fee for Petplan.

  • When does my Petplan policy become effective?
  • Petplan policies are effective at 12:01am (EST) the day after enrollment.

Accident or injury coverage for policies issued by Allianz Global Risks US Insurance Company will begin twenty-four (24) hours after the policy becomes effective. There is a fourteen (14) day waiting period after the effective date of the policy during which we will not cover any illness of your pet. There is a (6) month exclusion on cruciates and patellas.

For policies issued by XL Specialty Insurance Company, accident and injury coverage begins five (5) days after the policy becomes effective. There is a fifteen (15) day waiting period after the effective date of the policy during which we will not cover any illness of your pet. There is a (6) month exclusion on cruciates and patellas.
  • Is it possible for any of the waiting periods to be waived?
  • Petplan does not cover costs arising out of or related to any treatment associated with damage or rupture of cruciate ligaments, luxation of the patellas or other soft tissue disorders of the knee where clinical sign(s) occur during the first six (6) months that the policy is in effect. However, coverage will be afforded if your pet is examined by a veterinarian within the first thirty (30) days after the original inception date of the policy and the medical record specifically certifies your pet does not have any disorders relating to the knees, subject to the waiting period.
  • Are medical history records required as a part of the enrollment process?
  • While all applications are subject to underwriting review, medical records are not typically required for enrollment. Based on your pet’s medical history, records may be requested if: your pet is currently taking medication; your pet has had a recent injury or illness; or you are re-enrolling your pet with a Petplan policy after there has been a break in coverage.
  • Can I insure my older dog/cat with Petplan?
  • Yes! We have no upper age limits for enrollment, which means any dog or cat over the age of six (6) weeks can be protected with Petplan pet insurance.
  • What if I am unsure of my pet's birth date?
  • If you do not know your pet’s exact date of birth, simply provide your best estimate. If you do not know the approximate age of your pet, your veterinarian will be able to give you an estimate based on a physical examination. Please email Customer Care or call 1-866-467-3875, and one of our Happiness Managers will be delighted to help you!
  • Does Petplan offer a money back guarantee?
  • Yes! We offer a 30-day money back guarantee. If, within the first 30 days of your policy you wish to cancel, we will provide you with a full refund. Please note that if you cancel your policy within 30 days, but after you have submitted a claim, you will be refunded a pro-rated amount of your paid premium less your enrollment fee (if applicable).
