Sniffing out a lost pup is never an easy task, and it’s a scary experience Kenneth knows all too well. Two years ago, he was walking his Whippet, Ili, when she became spooked by a group of dogs and ran off into the nearby woods. Kenneth gathered friends to help search for her, but Ili was nowhere to be found.

Two days later, Kenneth received a call from a stranger. Ili had been hit by a car and was hurt. She was rushed to the vet, where X-rays revealed a punctured lung and broken leg, requiring her radius and ulna to be plated and 17 screws put in her leg. Thankfully, most of the $7,000+ in treatment costs were covered by Petplan.

“It’s taken a long time to heal,” admits Kenneth, whose pup was previously known for her Frisbee and jumping abilities. “Ili is more of a gentle ball-toss dog now,” he smiles, “but she’s home.”
